Peter exhorts us to grow in grace and in knowledge. Our starting point for this development is found in Rom. 5. V2
Being justified by faith we have access unto this grace in which we stand.
If we are to live in the realm of 2 Peter 3.18 then our lives are to be without sin, i.e. the. power sin no longer has an hold on us.
(1).. The basis of Christian Growth (vl-2) -
Common faith of believers.
The precious faith Peter mentions is the basis of Christian development and growth. It’s not found in a system of religion or creed, but on the basis of the righteousness of God. It is from God and not of human endeavour or attainment.
It rests fully upon God's righteousness towards us and is ultimately found in and through the Redemptive work of Christ
ICor. 3.11 For no other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid which is Christ Jesus The only foundation Jesus Christ.
Salvation is the great inclusive word of the Gospel gathering together all the processes of Redemption Justification, redemption, Grace, Propitiation, Imputation, Forgiveness, Sanctification, Glorification.
(2)...The Spiritual Endowment of Believers. V3-4
Christian growth consists of
(a) His divine power. "According as his divine power hath given unto us all things"
His divine power (dynamic of the holy Spirit) has bestowed onus "all things necessary for the full realization of life and godliness
Peter IPet 1:5 reminds us we are kept by that same power. We have assurance and security.
John reminds us in Ch.14 that we have a comforter Greek word parakletos. Meaning one called alongside to help but even more than that it is indwelling.
b). His divine Word, "knowledge of him"
Through the scriptures faithfully recorded by eye witnesses of the life of Jesus , his ministry and teaching while on earth, we have an accurate knowledge of him
It is full, personal, accurate knowledge is made possible by the "living Word

Growing in Grace and in knowledge of God
But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord And Savior Jesus Christ.
Believers are urged to "Keep on growing in grace" God's method not only of saving men, but maturing them
and in the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
The twofold sphere of true Spiritual growth is (1). Keep on growing (2). And maturing in the Knowledge of God.
